SWOSU Stops No. 11 St. Edward’s in 2016 Season Opener

CANYON, Texas – Korbin Polston had two hits and CJ Faddis two RBI as SWOSU opened up the 2016 with an emphatic win, taking down No. 11 St. Edward's in the first game of the West Texas A&M round robin.

SWOSU's offense mounted a two-out rally in the second inning Justin Freeman started things with a ground-rule double in his first at-bat as Bulldog. Two batters later, CJ Faddis singled into right, plating Jacob Spring and Freeman for the first runs of the season. The lead was extended to 3-0 in the fourth on an unearned run as Haden Houska crossed the plate following a Hilltopper error.
 
Reigning First Team All-GAC selection Jon Chidester (1-0) pitched well in his return to the mound, allowing three hits and one run in 5.0 innings of work to pick up his first win of the season. Austin Hilton allowed one hit in two innings before Blake Gooden closed things down, allowing one run on one hit in the ninth before picking up the save.
 
SWOSU (1-0) faces Colorado Mines on Saturday at 12:30 pm in their second game of the weekend.
