ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Bulldog Basketball was held to 33.3% shooting and committed 18 turnovers in a 75-56 setback at Henderson State on Thursday evening.
SWOSU led briefly in the early going, but once Henderson State got going there would be no stopping the Reddies on this night. HSU connected on 10 three-pointers, compared to six for the Bulldogs, and the Reddies shot 43% from the field, but the difference in the game was turnovers. SWOSU's 18 turnovers is one off their season high, and the giveaways led to 26 points for HSU while 10 Reddie turnovers were converted into just six points by the Bulldogs.
Three SWOSU players reached double figures in scoring, led by
Emeche Wells with 14 points in 28 minutes.
Juwan Newmen was aggressive on the block and secured a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds while
Nick Shoemaker chipped in 10 points.
"We really battled tonight, but we were unable to do the things necessary to win a road game in the GAC," SWOSU Head Coach
Bob Battisti said. "We committed too many turnovers and didn't shoot the ball well and that is a bad recipe for winning. Our guys will bounce back and we have another chance to try and play better on Saturday against Ouachita."
SWOSU (16-11, 12-9 GAC) falls into a tie for fourth place in the GAC standings with Southern Arkansas and Southern Nazarene heading into the regular season finale. The Bulldogs will face Ouachita, a team fighting for a share of the conference championship, on Saturday afternoon in Arkadelphia.
