Bulldogs and Tigers Split Extra-Inning Contests


WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball had leads in the seventh inning of both games on Saturday, but each went to extra innings and East Central and SWOSU each got a win in the doubleheader at the Athletic Complex.
 
SWOSU (4-10, 2-2 GAC) opens conference play with a split and they'll look to build on that next weekend when they travel to Durant to face Southeastern Oklahoma State in a four-game series.

SWOSU scored four runs in the third inning and took a 5-2 inning to the seventh inning before allowing four runs and having to score once themselves to force extra innings. In the extra frame, ECU got two runs on three hits while SWOSU got two base runners on before the game ended with a strikeout.
 
Alex Wilson, Ashley Jones and Samantha Householder each had two hits in the game, with Wilson adding two RBI while Haney, Jones and West accounted for the other earned runs. Taya Haney allowed four earned runs in seven innings of work before giving way to Kaley Reding (1-3), who took the loss after ECU scored twice off her in the extra inning.

East Central had just one hit through seven innings and SWOSU built a 3-1 lead, but the Tigers scored two runs on four hits in the seventh to again force extra innings. This time, SWOSU would end up on the winning end after Tori Hawk tripled to lead off the tenth inning. Two batters later, Alex Wilson hit an RBI single down the left field line, allowing the Bulldogs to walk off with the doubleheader and series split.
 
Ashley Jones had another 2-for-4 performance with two RBI and Wilson finished 3-for-5 at the plate with the game-winning RBI. Larie Amos (1-1) pitched the final four innings to earn the victory despite allowing six hits and two earned runs in the seventh inning.
