Baseball Takes Series From Newman in High-Scoring Duel

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Jacob Spring went 4-for-5 with 2 RBI while Joshua Santos and CJ Faddis each had 2 RBI as the productive hitting of the Bulldogs helped lead to a 13-12 win over Newman on Saturday afternoon.
 
SWOSU got on the board first with Korbin Polston RBI single scoring Santos, followed by Justin Freeman with an RBI single to score Polston while loading up the bases. Haden Houska walked, scoring Zach Barton before a costly error on Newman scores Jacob Spring and made it 4-0 Bulldogs. CJ Faddis joined in with a 2 RBI, before Santos came back around with an RBI single that scored Greg Bruno. SWOSU had seven runs on five hits while leaving two on base in the explosive first inning.
 
Newman was able to get one run across the board in the second inning with two hits but SWOSU answered in the third inning with four more runs on two hits and one Jet error. The Bulldogs struggled to get the bats going in the next three innings while Newman started working their way  back in with runs in the fourth and fifth inning that cut the deficit to 11-2.
 
The Jets had an explosive inning of their own, scoring seven runs in the seventh inning on six hits as two errors by SWOSU helped create the new, close score of 11-10. The Bulldogs quickly increased the lead back up to 13-10 in the bottom of the seventh on errors by Newman. The eighth inning was silent on both teams, leaving Newman with only one at bat left to score, but the Bulldogs were able to hold Newman to only two runs and winn the close game 13-12.
 
Devin Ring started off on the mound for the Bulldogs pitching 4.1 innings and only giving up 4 hits to take the win, while multiple pitchers came in throughout the game Quinton Dougherty finished off the last 1.2 innings.
 
SWOSU finished off the weekend series against Newman wining the series 2-1, the Bulldogs are now 3-4 on the season. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday February 16th taking on Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City at 2 pm.
