Volleyball Closes out Regular Season at Rival Northwestern


Setting the Scene
- SWOSU Volleyball (12-16, 8-7 GAC) concludes the regular season on the road in Alva against rival Northwestern Oklahoma State Thursday night at 7 pm
- The Bulldogs will look to avenge their 3-1 loss to the Rangers back on September 22
- With a win and a UAM loss, the Dawgs will secure a fifth-place seeding for the upcoming GAC Tournament next week in Hot Springs, Ark.

The Opponent
Northwestern Oklahoma State (4-26, 2-13 GAC)
- NWOSU comes into the match with a win in their previous match over ECU which snapped an eight-game slide
- SWOSU accounts for one of the four total wins the Rangers have collected this season
- Natalie Fahey leads the Ranger offensive attack with her 207 kills (2.23 K/S) in 2016
- Northwestern is currently being led by interim Head Coach Lailani Maile who began the season as an assistant

 The Coaches
SWOSU: Josh Collins (68-88, 5th season)
- Led the Bulldogs to the best season in program history in 2015, winning 22 games and the GAC Tournament Championship
- Has coached nine All-GAC selections, one GAC Freshman of the Year and one AVCA All-Central Region selection in four seasons
- His teams have earned two AVCA Team Academic Awards and one GAC Sportsmanship Award
- Added the duties of Director of Gameday Operations at SWOSU in the fall of 2014.
 
Northwestern Oklahoma State: Lailani Maile (Interim Head Coach)
- 2016 marks the fourth year as an assistant coach for NWOSU Volleyball
- She previously worked with the Rancho Valley Volleyball Club, run by former Ranger head coach Gene Krieger where she served as head coach of the 16U girls' team and assisted in player development
- Maile is a 2013 graduate from UC-Riverside where she earned a bachelor's degree in psychology

Checking the Standings
- SWOSU enters the final match of the season tied with Arkansas-Monticello for sixth in the GAC standings with an 8-7 record, but do not hold the tie breaker against the Cotton Blossoms
- Ouachita, Harding, Arkansas Tech, and Oklahoma Baptist are all tied for the league lead with 11-4 records followed by Southern Nazarene in fifth place with a 10-5 record
- All eight teams for the conference tournament have been set, but only (8) Southeastern has solidified their seed  

SWOSU Notes
- With Kayla Hebert's double-double last night, she now has 12 double-doubles on the year and 33 for her career, passing Kristen Kaufman (2006-09) for the school record
-  Hebert also surpassed the 2,000-assist mark last weekend and sits in second place on the school's leaderboard with 2,097 career assists as a Bulldog
-  Blair Dressendorfer ranks third in the GAC by averaging .41 service aces per match (28/61), and picked up another ace on Tuesday against the Crimson Storm
- Carly Zak earned another milestone on Tuesday, surpassing the 1,600 kill mark in her four-year career (1,613) by collecting 16 kills against SNU

Looking Ahead
- The Great American Conference Postseason Volleyball Tournament will begin next Thursday, November 17 and go through Saturday, November 19 in Hot Springs, Ark.
- The Bulldogs could end up seeded fifth or sixth depending on results on the final matches of the regular season
