Busy Week for Bulldogs Starts with Central Oklahoma on Monday Night

Setting the Scene
- After playing 15 of their first 17 matches away from home, the SWOSU Volleyball team gets their first taste of extended action at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center beginning on Monday night against Central Oklahoma
- The match will be the culmination of a home-and-home set against the Bronchos this season, with UCO defeating the Bulldogs 3-0 on September 16th in Edmond
- SWOSU is winless (0-12) all-time against the No. 10-ranked Bronchos, who will be making their first-ever visit to the Pioneer Cellular Event Center
 
The Opponent
#10 Central Oklahoma (19-1)
- UCO is ranked No. 10 in the latest AVCA Top 25 Poll and they bring a six-match winning streak to Weatherford since suffering their only defeat of the season against Central Missouri on September 23
- The Bronchos have lost just one set in that six-match winning streak and they are 7-0 against Great American Conference teams this season
- One of the top teams in the country defensively, holding opponents to a hitting percentage of .098, the third-best mark in NCAA Division II
- UCO is led by Taylor Bevins with 218 kills while hitting .276 and they have three other players with more than 100 kills on the year
 
The Coaches
SWOSU: Josh Collins (61-84, 5th season)
- Led the Bulldogs to the best season in program history in 2015, winning 22 games and the GAC Tournament Championship
- Has coached nine All-GAC selections, one GAC Freshman of the Year and one AVCA All-Central Region selection in four seasons
- His teams have earned two AVCA Team Academic Awards and one GAC Sportsmanship Award
- Added the duties of Director of Gameday Operations at SWOSU in the fall of 2014.
 
Central Oklahoma: Edgar Miraku (115-39, 5th season)
- Now in his fifth season at UCO, Miraku has improved his record in each season at the school that includes a 31-5 mark last season
- Led UCO to the program's first league title since 2007 last season when they won the MIAA Championship and Miraku was named MIAA Coach of the Year
- Came to UCO following a seven-year stint as the head coach at Edmond Memorial HS, where he guided the team to a 209-48 record and four Class 6A State Championships
 
Checking the Standings
- SWOSU enters the week tied for seventh place in the Great American Conference standings with a 3-4 league mark
- Also tied with the Bulldogs are Arkansas-Monticello and East Central, teams that SWOSU has faced in the past two weeks
- Arkansas Tech, who the Dawgs will host on Saturday, and Oklahoma Baptist are currently tied atop the standings at 6-1, one game ahead of the Harding, who visits the Pioneer Cellular Event Center on Friday evening
 
SWOSU Notes
- The Bulldogs 3-2 victory over Southern Arkansas on Saturday was one of the top offensive performances in school history, with Kayla Hebert setting a new school record with 67 assists
- Both Carly Zak (29 kills) and Jill Green (17 kills) set new career highs, helping the Bulldogs put down 71 kills in the match
- Kelsi Schmidtberger got in the act with 10 kills at Southern Arkansas, breaking a streak of three straight matches in which she was held to less than five kills
- Kaitlyn Dillon, the reigning GAC Defensive Player of the Week, totaled 50 digs over the weekend and she has now recorded 10 or more digs in eight straight matches, with 20 or more in five of those outings
- Lindsey McCauley, who ranks fourth on the team with 130 digs (2.0 per set) had nine digs on Saturday at SAU after back-to-back games with 10
- Schmidtberger leads the Bulldogs with 45 blocks (2 solo, 45 assist) on the year, helping SWOSU to average 1.35 blocks per set for the season
 
Looking Ahead
- The busy weekend for SWOSU begins with a visit from Harding on Friday night, with first serve set for 6:00 pm at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center
- SWOSU will be in action twice on Saturday, hosting Arkansas Tech at 2:00 pm in a conference match and Lubbock Christian at 6:00 pm to conclude a home-and-home series with the Lady Chaps
