SWOSU Soccer Too Much for Rival Northwestern

Box Score (html)

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer beat Northwestern Oklahoma State 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon out at the Athletic Complex. Alimata Rabo scored twice and reigning Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Week Sandra Nabweteme added one of her own to give the Bulldogs the win.

Scoring started off in the ninth minute when Nabweteme took a pass deep in the box from Ashlyn Collier and was able to dribble around a defender and Ranger goalie Briana Legaspi to create a shot and net it home. It was Northwestern who managed to score the next point off of a free kick in the 19th minute when Cydni Phelps was able to get her head on the pass to get it past Courtney Flores for the score. The tie would not last however when six minutes later Rabo shot and scored unassisted to regain the Bulldog lead. That score would stay the same for the remainder of the first half and going into the locker room it was SWOSU leading NWOSU 2-1.

Right after the break in the 46th minute, Rabo got the Bulldogs back on the board courtesy of Collier's second assist of the match. That would be all SWOSU would get, after going dry the rest of the period. The three goals were more than enough though, as the defense allowed a mere one second half shot that was quickly denied by Flores.

With Rabo's two goals and Nabweteme's one, SWOSU now has two players tied atop the NCAA Division II rankings in goals scored this season with 17. Both players have already surpassed Samantha Nunez's previous SWOSU record set in 2015 of 12 scored in a year, and are currently battling for the single-season school record. With her two assists on the day, Collier now has four assists to go along with her three goals scored already this season.

SWOSU sweeps the season series with the rival Rangers by scores of 6-1 back on Sept. 20 and 3-1 today. The Bulldogs now currently sit in first place in the GAC standings at 6-1 with one extra win than Ouachita Baptist who also sits in first place and will play tomorrow.

The Bulldogs (9-2-1, 6-1 GAC) will return to action on Thursday, hitting the road to face East Central in Ada at 3 pm.
