SWOSU Downs East Central in Ada

Box Score (html)

ADA, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer defeated East Central 3-1 on Thursday to win their fourth-straight Great American Conference match. Shelley Mueller, Ashlyn Collier, and Alimata Rabo all contributed to the Bulldog scoring with one goal apiece.

Shots came pouring in during the first half, with both sides taking their share of attempts to score. East Central got on the board first midway through the first period when Deanna Rudasill ran behind the SWOSU backline to get a shot away past goalkeeper Courtney Flores. The Bulldogs continued to take shots but couldn't connect with anything until the 41st minute, right before halftime, when Mueller took a cross pass from Kendall Harris and knocked it home to knot up the scoring at 1-1 going into the intermission.

Both teams traded shots to open up the second half taking six each, but it was the Bulldogs who netted the first goal of the period in the 64th minute after Collier scored coming off the assist by Sandra Nabweteme. Nearly 15 minutes later, Rabo added an insurance goal by taking advantage of a one-on-one with ECU's goalie to score her NCAA Division II leading 18th goal of the season.

After the win, SWOSU now improves to 7-1 in GAC play to remain atop the conference standings. Ouachita is in second place in the standings with a 5-2 record, one game better than Oklahoma Baptist and Harding who are both 4-3 during league play. Southern Nazarene currently sits in fifth sporting a 3-4 record and today's opponent East Central falls to 2-5. Northwestern Oklahoma State is in last having not won a conference game yet at 0-7. The top four teams make the GAC Conference Tournament hosted by the top-seeded school based on regular season standings.

The Bulldogs (10-2-1, 7-1 GAC) return home to face Harding on Thursday, October 20 looking for revenge after falling to the Lady Bisons 2-0 in Searcy earlier in the season.
