WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Sunday's Great American Conference baseball doubleheader between Harding and SWOSU was moved to Weatherford because of weather concerns, but the conditions were less than ideal as the Bulldogs suffered a sweep by scores of 2-1 and 5-3.
Harding 2, SWOSU 1Box Score Ethan Davis threw a complete game effort in the opener, allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out four Bisons. Harding had their best scoring opportunity early as the first four batters of the game reached base, plating one run before Davis got a pair of strikeouts to end the inning. The Bisons added just one unearned run in the fourth innings beyond that.
SWOSU got on the board with an RBI single from
Jacob Spring in the top of the fourth that allowed
Haden Houska to score from second and briefly tie the game. Houska was 2-for-4 in the game with a run scored while
Greg Bruno also had a two-hit effort.
Davis suffered the defeat, falling to 3-5 on the year.
Harding 5, SWOSU 3Box Score It did not take long for Mother Nature to intervene in the second game, which was halted for 67 minutes in the bottom of the second inning due to rain with Harding leading 2-0. Both teams changed pitchers after the rain delay and the Bisons scored twice off of
Taylor Weifenbach in the second, but they were limited to just one run over the final three frames.
SWOSU would score single runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but never got any closer than within two runs. Houska and
Bryan Holt each had two-hit games as the Bulldogs combined for nine hits in the seven-inning game.
Connor Garcia started and took the loss after allowing three hits and two runs in 1.2 innings, before being replaced following the rain delay.
The Bulldogs (16-25, 9-17) conclude their three-game GAC series against Harding on Monday at noon from the Athletic Complex.
