Offense Goes Cold as Bulldogs Drop Two Games to Tigers

ADA, Okla. – The Bulldogs suffered a slow start to their four-game series with East Central, dropping a pair of games to the Tigers on Friday afternoon in Ada, Okla. SWOSU was held scoreless in a 12-0 run-rule defeat before falling 10-3 in the second game.

Game 1: ECU 12, SWOSU 0 (5 Inn.)
Box Score

It was a slow start for both teams as they went scoreless through the first and second innings. Ashley Dunigan recorded the first hit of the game in the top of the third, but was unable to move past first and was left stranded. A disastrous bottom of the third saw the Bulldogs facing a 6-0 hole that was widened to 12-0 at the end of the fourth. Ashley Filer singled up the middle in the top of the fifth, but SWOSU was unable to record a run.

Molly Vivo got the start in the circle and pitched 2.2 innings. She took her ninth loss of the season. Offensively, the Bulldogs only recorded two hits, one each by Dunigan and Filer.

Game 2: ECU 10, SWOSU 3
Box Score

The Bulldogs started off much better in the second game, claiming a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning off a single to left field by Ashley Jones that drove in Dunigan. In the second inning the Bulldogs increased their lead to 3-0 after Adrienne Martinez put the ball in play towards ECU's shortstop Peyton Watson. She committed an error on the play, allowing both Laken Cagle and Miranda McDonald to score.

Again it was the third inning that proved the deciding factor, as the Tigers put five runs past the Bulldogs to take their first lead of the game 5-3. A further two runs were added in the bottom of the fourth before ECU sealed the game with three runs in the sixth. The Bulldogs were held without to three hits from the third inning on in the defeat.

Laura Wilson started the game in the circle for SWOSU and went 2.1 innings while giving up just one hit in the no decision. Vivo was saddled with her second loss of the day after coming on in relief of Wilson. The Bulldogs recorded seven hits in the loss, Martinez who went 2-4 with two RBI.

SWOSU will return to action tomorrow afternoon for a second doubleheader against the Tigers beginning at 12 pm.
