ADA, Okla. – Though the Bulldogs boasted a much improved offense than Friday's doubleheader, SWOSU was still swept by East Central on the final day to drop the series 0-4. The first game went down to the final out, but ECU escaped with a 9-6. In the second game, SWOSU attempted a late rally, but fell short 10-5.
Game 1: ECU 9, SWOSU 6Box Score The bats were alive for the Bulldogs as they fought back from 3-0 down to take a 6-3 lead heading into the final half inning. However, a walk-off grand slam for the Tigers gave ECU their third victory of the series.
East Central took a quick 2-0 lead after two innings, but SWOSU drew level in the top of the third.
Tori Hawk got the Bulldogs on the board with a two-run blast that also scored
Adrienne Martinez, who had reached earlier on a walk. The Tigers were able to retake the lead in the bottom of the inning to make the score 3-2.
Both teams went without scoring the next three innings, setting up an action-packed final inning. Martinez doubled to left center, scoring
Sierra Potts in the process.
Maci Brown then singled to left field to drive in
Makensy Payne.
Ashley Jones finished off the scoring with a single down the left field line that scored in Martinez. SWOSU entered the bottom of the seventh with their first lead of the game, 6-3. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, East Central was able to take the game for good with a walk-off grand slam after scoring two prior runs in the inning.
Taylor Eaves went the distance in the circle, giving up nine runs on 14 hits.
Ashley Dunigan went 3-4 from the plate to lead the Bulldogs offensively as the Bulldogs collected 12 hits in the loss.
Game 2: ECU 10, SWOSU 5Box Score The Tigers puts five on the scoreboard in the first three innings before both teams went without a run in the fourth. SWOSU got their offense rolling the following inning, however, as Martinez nailed a three-run bomb over the centerfield fence that also scored Potts and
Molly Vivo. ECU responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to push the lead to 8-3, before putting an additional two runs on during their final at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. SWOSU went down swinging in the seventh with Martinez hitting her second home run of the game that also allowed
Kaity Rash to score.
Rash got the start in the circle and went 2.2 innings with five runs on seven hits. Martinez had a great day at the plate, recording two of SWOSU's five hits in four at-bats while earning two runs and notching five RBI.
SWOSU returns home on Friday, April 17 for the first of two doubleheaders against Southeastern Oklahoma State beginning at 2 pm.
