Box Score (html)

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The SWOSU Basketball team was handed their second loss of the 2015-16 season on Saturday afternoon at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center, falling to Panhandle State 76-65 in non-conference action.

The Bulldogs fell in a hole early as OPSU scored 12 of the first 15 points for a 12-3 lead early on and the Aggies would never relinquish their lead. The Bulldogs got within two late in the first half following a three-pointer from Nick Shoemaker and a free throw by Ayo Ojo, but the Aggies finished the half with a 13-4 spurt to push their lead back to 11 at 42-31 at halftime.

SWOSU shot the ball better from the field in the second half, knocking down 15-of-32 field goal attempts, but they made just 2-of-12 three-pointers and never got any closer than eight in the final 20 minutes. Four players scored in double figures for the Dawgs, with Emeche Wells and Markeise Champion scoring 16 points apiece to lead the way.

"The game boiled down to the fact that we were outplayed, outworked and outcoached today by Panhandle State," SWOSU Head Coach Bob Battisti said. "They had the best player on the court today and their team came in and played with energy and emotion and deserved to win."

The loss concludes the Bulldogs first semester of action with a record of 7-2 and snaps a seven-game winning streak since a defeat on opening night. SWOSU remains unblemished in Great American Conference play at 4-0 and they return to action on January 2nd with their final non-conference game against Hillsdale Baptist.
