WEATHERFORD, Okla. – After falling behind by 10 points in the opening minutes, the SWOSU Women's Basketball team outscored Oklahoma Christian in each of the final three quarters as they ran away from the Eagles for a 92-69 victory on Tuesday evening at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
The Lady Bulldogs assisted on 21 of their 31 made baskets and had four players reach double figures in scoring as they put up a season-best 92 points in the win. SWOSU hit 12-of-33 (36.4%) three pointers and connected on 18-of-24 (75%) free throws while also setting a new season-high with eight steals that led to eight fast break points. The Lady Dawgs had their biggest advantage in the paint, where they outscored OC 34-to-12.
SWOSU outscored the Eagles 27-14 in the second quarter to gain a 47-36 advantage at the break after falling behind 13-3 early and 22-20 after the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs gradually pulled away in the second half, outscoring OC by 12 points over the last 20 minutes for the final advantage.
Jade Jones led SWOSU with 16 points, knocking down 7-of-16 field goal attempts and 2-of-7 three-point attempts while
Morgan Vogt and
Jennifer Williams poured in 15 points apiece. Williams was especially efficient, scoring 15 points in 14 minutes, including knocking in 6-of-7 free throw attempts.
Hailey Tucker added 11 points and eight rebounds after hitting a trio of three-pointers and both of her free throws in the game.
Korina Chapman came off the bench to grab a season-best 14 rebounds, including 12 at the defensive end, along with four blocked shots while
Kylie Franz had a season-best seven assists to go along with seven points and two blocks. As a team, the Lady Dawgs finished with 21 assists, a season-high, and seven blocked shots, second-best mark of the season.
After an early-season gauntlet against top teams in the Great American Conference and Central Region, the Lady Bulldogs earned their first victory and improve to 1-4 on the year. They return to action on Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center, facing Northeastern State.
