LANGSTON, Okla. – Behind 18 service aces, the SWOSU Volleyball team won a decisive 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-15) victory against Langston in the first-ever meeting between the two teams. It was the most aces for SWOSU since the Bulldogs put 13 past East Central on November, 5 2013, and the third-most in program history.
SWOSU claimed a 1-0 lead after the first set ended 25-11 in favor of the Bulldogs. The Dawgs were a force on the serve, tallying six aces, led by
Kayla Hebert with four. SWOSU hit .364 in the set as
Kelsi Schmidtberger collected four kills on seven attempts. Langston was held to a .000 hitting percentage.
The second set ended in much the same way, as the Bulldogs rode five more service aces to a 25-10 victory and a 2-0 lead. This time it was
Kodee Avery and
Jill Green who did the damage behind the stripe, as Avery collected her second and third aces and Green posted three. SWOSU hit a season-best .500 for the set with 10 kills on 20 attempts in the error-free set.
Blair Dressendorfer led the team with five kills in the second.
SWOSU upped the ante in a decisive third set with seven aces for a 25-15 victory to close out the match in straight sets. The Bulldogs posted seven aces, including two by
DeLayni Fine. Boasting a hitting percentage of .211, the Dawgs tallied eight kills as
Paige Holt and Dressendorfer picked up three each.
The Bulldogs finished with a .361 hitting percentage, the second-best percentage this season. Dressendorfer led the way with eight kills and a career-best .583 hitting percentage. Four Bulldogs ended with at least three kills, led by Hebert and Avery with four each.
SWOSU (8-7) now owns the best 15-game start in program history. The Dawgs are back in action this Friday, October 9, when they resume conference play against Southern Arkansas at 6 pm in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
