SEARCY, Ark. – The SWOSU Soccer team found themselves on the wrong end of a 5-1 decision, falling to Harding in a matchup of first and second place.
Samantha Nunez provided the sole highlight for the Bulldogs, scoring in the third minute of play. She stole the ball from a Harding defender in the hosts' defensive third before putting a shot past goalkeeper Kaitlyn Miller for the early lead.
Two goals by Mika Richards put SWOSU on their heels over the next 15 minutes. The Dawgs attempted to work their way back into the game, but neither team would be able to find the goal over the final 25 minutes of the first half and SWOSU ended the half trailing 2-1.
Harding seized the initiative in the second half, putting three goals past
Courtney Flores and the Bulldogs' defense. SWOSU mustered just four shots over the final 45 minutes, bowing out of the contest facing a final score of 5-1.
With the loss, SWOSU (11-4-1, 7-2-1 GAC) drops to third place in the Great American Conference standings. The Bulldogs will complete the regular season schedule with a pair of home games next week, starting with a match against Southern Nazarene on October 29. SWOSU will be participating in a "Pink Out" in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
