WEATHERFORD, Okla. – For the second time in three games, the Bulldogs failed to find the back of the net, bowing out, 2-0, to Southern Nazarene in Great American Conference action on Thursday afternoon. It is the third straight loss for the SWOSU, who had previously been unbeaten in their last 10 games.
The first half offered few clear-cut chances for either team as SWOSU and the Crimson Storm combined for 10 shots, and only one shot on goal. That one shot was saved by Bulldog goalkeeper
Courtney Flores to preserve the tie in the second minute of action. The 42 minutes that followed failed to test either keeper. However, in the final 30 seconds,
Samantha Nunez and
Cori Kelly found themselves on the break with only SNU's keeper, Natasha Fuentes, to beat. Nunez sent her chipped shot wide, and the score remained 0-0 headed into the break.
Southern Nazarene's offense found a spark in the second half, with goals through Hannah Robinson and Grace Self in the 57th and 83rd minutes. SWOSU was unable to find a response, and the offense was held without a shot in the second frame until
Shelley Mueller sailed wide right of the goal in the 87th minute. Shots by Nunez and
Eva Rule also went wide of the post in the final minute of play, and the Bulldogs took their third loss in as many games.
The Bulldogs return to action for Senior Day on October 31 against Oklahoma Baptist at 11:00 a.m. at the Athletic Complex. It will be the last opportunity for fans' to catch the Bulldogs at home this season.
