Unbeaten Streak Ends for Soccer against Ouachita

Box Score (html)

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The SWOSU Soccer team came into their road match with Ouachita riding a 10-match unbeaten streak, but left Kluck Field with their first loss in conference play after bowing out in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Tigers.

The Bulldogs appeared to be running uphill throughout the first 45 minutes, as Ouachita outshot SWOSU 10-3. Cori Kelly had a chance early to put the Dawgs up, but though it her shot beat the Tigers' goalkeeper Lauren Llanes, it clanged off the crossbar to keep the score level inside of two minutes.

SWOSU followed that up with an effort by Samantha Nunez that was dragged left of the frame before Payton Warren forced Llanes into a save in the 19th minute. The offense was bottled up for the rest of the half, unable to register a shot over the next 26 minutes, as Courtney Flores collected two saves to keep the teams tied 0-0 at the interval.

Ouachita found the breakthrough quickly after the restart, with goals coming from Miranda Hudleston and Haley Hatcher in the 47th and 48th minutes of play. SWOSU were able to generate some offense following the second goal. However, the Bulldogs only mustered one additional shot on goal, from Warren, and were handed their first conference defeat of the season.

The Bulldogs (11-3-1, 7-1-1 GAC) have a quick turnaround as they head to Searcy, Arkansas, on Saturday for a meeting with Harding, the lone unbeaten team left in the GAC, at 3 p.m. at the Stevens Soccer Field.
