Soccer Remains Unbeaten in GAC, Ties Harding

Box Score (html)

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU's winning and shutout streaks ended at four games, but the Bulldogs remain unbeaten in Great American Conference competition as they fought Harding to a 2-2 draw through 110 minutes of action. The result was the Dawgs' first tie of the season.

The first half started quickly for SWOSU when the Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute through Cori Kelly. Reigning GAC Offensive Player of the Week Samantha Nunez pushed the ball to the right side of the box and onto the foot of Kelly. SWOSU's No. 19 sent a curling shot over the outstretched fingertips of Harding goalkeeper Kaitlyn Miller and into the top left corner for her third goal of the season.

A little over 20 minutes later, the Dawgs would double their advantage thanks to Eva Rule in the 33rd minute of play. Ashyln Collier whipped in a cross from the left wing that Kelly flicked back across the face of goal, sending Miller scrambling in the process. The ball fell perfectly to Rule for the easy tap in and her first goal of the season.

SWOSU's high-flying offense went cold in the second half, and the Lady Bisons took advantage, drawing level after Bethany Sutherland scored two goals. The first came in the 58th minute off a corner, followed by an 84th minute equalizer after the ball just got past SWOSU keeper Courtney Flores. They were the first pair goals SWOSU had allowed in over 415 minutes of play.

The teams went to extra time to find a winner, but both teams held firm through the additional 20 minutes of action. SWOSU had the best opportunity to take the game, but Kylee Bertrand's long-range was sent directly into the hands of Miller.

SWOSU (6-2-1, 2-0-1 GAC) remain unbeaten in five straight games and have yet to suffer a GAC loss this season. The Bulldogs welcome Ouachita Baptist to the Athletic Complex on Saturday, October 3 for a 1 pm kickoff.
