Soccer Slips to 3-0 Defeat Against West Texas A&M

Box Score

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU fell 3-0 to West Texas A&M in the first of three home games this week. Katelyn Traschler scored in the first half, while Haley Girard and Emily Krenek notched goals in the second half.

The first half started off well for the Bulldogs. A good bit of interplay between Ashlee Beitinger and Cori Kelly started the game for SWOSU, however Kelly's cross intended for Olivia Butler was cut out by West Texas keeper McKynzie Zick and resulted in the corner. The corner was placed out of reach of every player in the box and rolled out for a throw in.

Charlotte Eastman and Randa Castleberry kept the defensive line strong over the next 30 minutes of play. However, West Texas found the breakthrough goal in the 41st minute when Katelyn Taschler picked up the ball 18 yards out at the right corner of the box. She dribbled it to the top middle and took a low, curling shot through traffic that ended in the lower right corner of the goal. The whistle blew for halftime with the Bulldogs trailing.

The Lady Buffs would score again in the 52nd minute when Taschler got free on the end line to the right of goal and sent in a cross that found Girard unmarked to score on the half volley. The final goal resulted in the 71st minute when Krenek collected a deflected shot that left an open goal for her to place the ball in.

The Bulldogs searched for a goal, enjoying most of the possession for the remainder of the game. Olivia Butler sent in a hopeful shot that ended just over the crossbar. Cindy Ramos and Jasmine Heffley were active in forward positions as well, but were unable to create any goals.

Courtney Flores recorded three more saves to her Great American Conference leading 36 in the effort. She picked up the loss and sits at 0-5-1 on the season.

The Bulldogs will enter conference play looking for their first win. They host Southern Nazarene in their conference opener Thursday at 4 PM at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
