Box Score WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU took the lead early, but fell late in the Great American Conference opener against visiting Southern Nazarene.
Shelley Mueller scored for the Bulldogs to take the lead, but goals from Mallary Pineda, Alyssa Glitzke, Sheridan Williams, Kenedy Orton and Kami Bussert saw the Crimson Storm run out winners.
The day started well for the Bulldogs when the freshman connection of
Olivia Butler and Mueller saw SWOSU earn a well deserved lead in the 31st minute. Butler whipped in a cross from the top left of the box to a streaking Mueller. Mueller collected it and notched her team-leading second goal of the season with a low shot past SNU keeper Natasha Fuentes.
The lead would not last long. Pineda found herself free in the box to fire a shot into the upper left corner of the goal. The score was tied within a minute of SWOSU taking the lead. The Bulldogs would press and thought they found a leading goal when
Charlotte Eastman took a free kick 30 yards out. A great designed play saw her slip
Lauren Williams in unguarded for a good cross.
Cori Kelly found the ball and smashed it into the back of the net, but the linesman's flag signaled for offside. The teams would go into the locker rooms tied 1-1.
SWOSU controlled the game for the first 60 minutes of action, but SNU took the lead against the run of play. Glitzke scored the unassisted game-winner when she dribbled free from the left of the box and fire a shot near post that beat
Courtney Flores in the 60th minute. Ten minutes later, Hannah Robinson sent in an early cross that fell to Williams' feet. She put her shot low and it got the best of Flores. In the 81st minute, Pineda dribbled through two defenders and squared the ball to Kenedy Orton for the fourth goal. The last goal came when Flores made the save, but found the ball end up at the feet of Bussert, who put it in to the open net.
Flores picked up another eight saves in the loss, the first loss in conference play since October 25 of last year. The loss drops SWOSU to 0-6-1 on the season.
The Bulldogs will look to get back on track when they host East Central for the last of game of the home stand on Saturday at 1 PM.
