Box Score WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Bulldogs fell to visiting Midwestern State 3-0 at the SWOSU Athletic Complex. Nicole Coetzer, Alexandria Edwards and Destinee Williamson all scored second half goals to secure victory for the Mustangs.
The first half started out positively for the Bulldogs as they controlled possession for the first 20 minutes. Over that time, they owned a 3-2 shot advantage. Within the first minute of the game,
Cori Kelly managed to test MSU keeper Courtney Burnette. Burnette would go on to make five saves on six shots from the Bulldogs in the first half, with Kelly leading the charge with two shots on goal. The whistle blew for half time with the teams tied at 0-0.
Shortly after the restart, MSU opened the scoring. SWOSU conceded the 50th minute from a corner which was put into the box. Williamson collected the ball and passed it to the top of the box for Coetzer, who fired a hard shot through traffic that beat Flores. SWOSU looked to get back in the game and got three shots off that forced Burnette to make two saves within ten minutes of the goal.
The Bulldogs had a nice counter in the 70th minute thanks to
Shelley Mueller. She broke from midfield when a MSU defender slipped. She passed the ball off to Kelly, who hit it to
Ashlee Beitinger. A mishit by Beitinger saw the threat pass.
SWOSU then suffered a second goal from the corner in the 79
th minute. This time Callie Briseno sent in the ball for the Mustangs. A deflected shot fell to the feet of Edwards and she placed it into the net. SWOSU would concede a final goal in the dying embers of the game when Katy Catney sent Williamson through and she placed a low shot that beat Flores as the whistle blew.
Action resumes for the Bulldogs when they travel to Shawnee, Okla. to face the Oklahoma Baptist Bison Thursday at 5 PM.
