Two from SWOSU Basketball Named to NABC Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today the 2013-14 NABC Honors Court, recognizing those men's collegiate student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season. Two players from SWOSU – Bret Atkins and Jordan Franz – were among the record 895 student-athletes to earn the NABC Honors Court distinction.
 
The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:
 
   - Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player
   - Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2013-14 academic year
   - Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution
   - Member of an NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach
 
Atkins (Zagreb, Croatia) provided depth in the backcourt for the Bulldogs, appearing in 19 games last season. He shot 45.5% from the 3-point range while averaging just under three minutes of action per game in his sophomore season.
 
Franz (Alva, Okla.) saw action in all 27 games his junior season, making seven starts for the Bulldogs in midseason. He averaged 1.8 points per game while shooting 30.6% from the field and 31.0% from 3-point range in just under 10 minutes of action.
