Box Score WEATHERFORD, Okla. – A slow start to the second half for SWOSU cost the Lady Bulldogs against Southern Nazarene in conference action at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center, with the Crimson Storm emerging 74-65 winners.
Jessica Penner led the Lady Dawgs with 20 points and 11 boards for her second straight double-double. She was 8-15 from the field, going against one of the premier post players in the Great American Conference, Aminata Fall.
SWOSU led through most of the first half.
Chelsea Bates' nine points paced the Lady Dawgs as they used a 16-4 run spanning seven minutes to take a 14 point lead over the Crimson Storm. The teams would go into the locker rooms with SWOSU holding a 37-30 advantage.
The Lady Bulldogs went cold coming into the second half, allowing SNU the first eight points of the half. The teams traded the lead for the next 2:38 before SNU used a 10-0 run spanning nearly five minutes to pull away. After shooting 48 percent from the field and 50 percent from deep to start the game, SWOSU shot 25 percent from the field while making just one 3-point basket in the second half.
Aside from Penner, Bates also scored in double digits. She scored 15 points on 4-8 shooting and was good getting to the stripe where she was 7-12. Bates also grabbed seven boards and dished out six assists.
Jade Jones, making her first career start, had nine points, five rebounds and three assists.
"I thought we did a much better job sharing the ball, especially when they were in man, we were able to get to the rim," said Head Coach
Kelsi Musick. "We're going to have to put together a game where we shoot well inside and out, especially going to Arkansas Tech which is always a tough place to play."
SWOSU goes back on the road Wednesday, December 17 against No. 18 Arkansas Tech in conference action. Tip time is set for 5:30 PM.
