NORMAN, Okla. – The Bulldogs wrapped up their final exhibition game of the season when they travelled to Norman, Okla., on Tuesday night to face the No. 19-ranked Sooners in McCasland Field House.
SWOSU struggled to find a rhythm early on, waiting until three minutes in to earn their first bucket off a
Martell Collins layup. For their next score,
Emeche Wells stole the ball from Sooners' guard Buddy Hield and passed it to
Trent Washington on the breakaway for the easy layup. The Dawgs struggled from the field though, only shooting 25.9 percent, but made 3-12 treys to go into halftime trailing 43-18.
The Bulldogs opened up the half with a great alley-oop from Washington to
Richard McCalop. However, they would shoot 22.6 percent with only one three-point shot made through the second half. McCalop finished as SWOSU's leading scorer with 10 points on 4-10 shooting, while Kenyon Borders was second on the team with seven.
The Dawgs finished with 30 rebounds to the Sooners 55, led by
Oliver Willis with a team-high 6.
Trent Washington finished second with 5. The game ended 78-37 in favor of the Sooners.
"This is a good learning experience for our guys," said Head Coach
Bob Battisti, "We learned some things about ourselves and it will help us to better prepare for the beginning of the season."
The Dawgs are back in action this weekend when they head to Bolivar, Mo., for the Southwest Baptist Classic. They will take on Southwest Baptist Friday at 7:30 PM, then square off against Lincoln Saturday at 2 PM.
