Setting the Scene
- With October coming to a close, the Bulldog volleyball team has five matches remaining before the Great American Conference Tournament
- SWOSU will play Cameron on Tuesday in the first match of a home-and-home series to close out the season
- The Bulldogs then play their crossover GAC match with a trip to Searcy, Ark., to face Harding in one of their final two conference matches of the season
- SWOSU has alternated wins and losses over their past six matches, earning all three victories in five sets

The Opponents
Cameron
- Enter the week with a 10-13 overall record, but they are currently mired in a five-match losing streak
- Have a record of 3-2 this season against Great American Conference foes, including wins over East Central, Arkansas-Monticello and Southeastern Oklahoma State
- Tied for 8th in the Lone Star Conference standings with Midwestern State with a 3-11 conference mark to date
- Led offensively by Kat Evans and Rebecca Green, who each have more than 200 kills on the year
- Averaging 1.27 blocks per set, led by 48 from Green and 42 by Paige Holt
- Ranked second in the LSC in digs with 1,608 (18.24/set) behind Cristina Viera, who has 294
 
Harding
- 17-6 overall and riding a six-match winning streak heading into the week
- Alone in second place of the Great American Conference standings at 9-2, one game behind Arkansas Tech in the loss column
- Have won five consecutive conference matches since a four-set defeat at Southeastern Oklahoma State on October 4
- Out-hitting their opponents .215 to .155 with eight of their primary players hitting above .200 for the year
- Led by Marindia Turner and Liv Savage, who have both been named GAC Offensive Player of the Week during October
- Setter Taryn Eubank has also earned GAC Setter of the Week honors and is averaging 10.11 assists per set
 
The Coaches
SWOSU: Josh Collins (34-54, 3rd season)
- Named second head volleyball coach in SWOSU history on January 1, 2012
- Enters his third season with a 26-41 record with back-to-back 13-win seasons
- Has coached five All-GAC selections and one GAC Freshman of the Year
- SWOSU has finished fourth in the GAC in each of his seasons
 
Cameron: Qi Wang (10-13, 1st season)
- In his first season as the head coach at Cameron after serving as an assistant coach at Angelo State for the previous four years
- Has had past stints as a head coach at Truman State, Northern Michigan and Florida Tech where he had a combined winning percentage of .728 with more than 200 career victories
- Only once has his team not finished with a winning record and he led his teams to six 20-win seasons
 
Harding: Meredith Fear (72-20, 3rd season)
- In her third year at Harding as volleyball coach and Senior Woman Administrator
- Has led the Lady Bisons to back-to-back GAC regular season championships
- Two-time defending GAC Coach of the Year
- Played at Harding as a DS from 2004-07 and returned to her alma mater after two seasons as the head coach at York College in Nebraska
 
Last Time Out
- The Bulldogs went 2-2 last week, winning at East Central and against Oklahoma Baptist in five sets
- Defeats came against Southern Nazarene in five sets and vs. #25 West Texas A&M
- Joey Collins had 20 kills against ECU and 21 against SNU, finishing the week with 73
- SWOSU earned their first-ever win over future GAC foe Oklahoma Baptist by holding off a comeback by the Bisons
- Taylor VanderWerff had a career-best nine block assists against OBU as SWOSU finished with 15 blocks as a team
- The 15 blocks against OBU is second-most in a match in school history and SWOSU also had 107 digs, the third-most single-match mark
 
Checking the Standings
- SWOSU clinched their spot in the GAC Tournament with a victory over East Central last Tuesday
- The Bulldogs are currently tied for eighth with Southern Arkansas at 5-7 in conference play
- Saturday's opponent, Harding, is alone in second place in the standings at 9-2
- 2014 will be the first year that the GAC Volleyball champion is not undefeated in conference play
 
SWOSU Notes
- Kaila Lancaster is poised to become the career leader in digs at SWOSU this week, needing 19 more to move past Janna Green (1,196, 2005-07). Lancaster moved into second place last week and currently has 1,178 digs to her credit
- Joey Collins attempted her 3,000th career attack last week after tying the school record of 68 attempts against Southern Nazarene. Collins has taken 3,108 attempts in her career
- Another strong defensive week from Kiley Brennfoerder has helped up her career totals and her next assist block will be the 200th of her career. She ranks second in total blocks at SWOSU with 255 (56 solo, 199 assist)
- Brandy Mader has 613 digs this season, the seventh-best single season total at SWOSU
- Carly Zak moved up another notch on the all-time kills list at SWOSU, moving into fifth place after another great week. As a sophomore, Zak has been credited with 661 kills, needing 40 more to move past Tennessee Brown (700, 2005-07) and into fourth
- Shayne Haley set a new career best with six blocks against Oklahoma Baptist and she had 11 kills against Southern Nazarene, her second-most this season. Haley has now recorded at least five kills in every match since September 10
- Taylor VanderWerff's nine blocks against OBU set a new career high and is the third-most in a match in school history. She ranks second on the team with 60 (6 solo, 54 assist) this season
- Ariana Olson set a new career high with 15 digs against Oklahoma Baptist and she currently has 109 (1.49/set) for the year
- Kenya Williams has reached double figures in digs in eight consecutive matches, including four 20-plus dig efforts. She also moved into eighth in career digs with 625, moving past former teammate Saasha Jacobson (600, 2012-13)
- Williams remains ranked sixth in career service aces with 64, seven shy of moving into fifth
 
Looking Ahead
- SWOSU hosts Midwestern State next Monday night for Senior Night before a trip to Alva to face Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday
- The Bulldogs conclude the regular season the following week at Cameron
