Box Score ADA, Okla. – SWOSU fell 2-1 to East Central in the first overtime period at the Lady Tiger Soccer Field.
Cori Kelly bagged her third goal of the season in the outing. Megan Lantrip and Taylor Graves scored for the Tigers.
The first fifteen minutes were a back and forth affair for the two sides.
Jasmine Heffley took the first shot of the game, but was wide of the mark. East Central followed up with three shots, forcing
Courtney Flores into three saves. Kelly then saw her first shot of the game saved by ECU's Taylor Lowe.
A great individual effort by Kelly gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.
Payton Warren sent in a long through ball that Kelly ran on to, beating her mark. Kelly then found herself one on one with Lowe, whom she beat to take the lead.
ECU had the bulk of possession over the final 25 minutes of the half. Flores was called into action on two more occasions, and an additional two shots were blocked by the defense. The whistle then blew, signaling the end of the half.
The Lady Tigers kept the pressure up when play resumed. Flores recorded two saves over the next 15 minutes before ECU found the tying goal. In the 68th minute, Megan Lantrip found herself with space at midfield. She sent in a hopeful shot that clipped the bottom of the crossbar and ended up in the back of the net.
After the goal, the two sides traded possession.
Eva Rule managed to force Lowe into a save in the 71st minute. ECU took a further three shots, but all were wide of the mark. The teams would end regulation tied up at 1-1, with golden goal to be the decider.
SWOSU was called for a foul in the seventh minute of overtime. Taylor Graves stepped up to take the ensuing free kick. Her shot went just over the head of Flores, earning the Lady Tigers the win.
The Bulldogs fell to 2-4-1 in conference play. Action resumes next week when SWOSU hosts Harding and Ouachita Baptist at the Athletic Complex.
