Second Half Scoring Burst Boosts Soccer Past Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. – After having their halftime 2-0 lead cut in half early in the second half, the SWOSU women's soccer team scored back-to-back goals within one minute to put away Missouri Southern 4-1 on Friday night.
 
Paige Doherty got the scoring started for SWOSU in the first half, scoring her first goal of the year in the 24th minute to put the Lady Bulldogs on top 1-0. Samantha Nunez chipped in a goal of her own in the 37th minute off an assist from Doherty to up that lead to 2-0, a lead that SWOSU would take to the break.
 
Missouri Southern's Dana Wilhelm got the Lions on the board early in the second half, cutting the lead in half in the 53rd minute, but moments later SWOSU would put the game away. First, Alexis Russell put in a goal off an assist from Charlotte Eastman in the 60th minute to make it 3-1. Then, Doherty found Natalie Crosslin in the 61st minute to up the lead to 4-1, which would be the final margin.
 
SWOSU put up 14 shots to six for MSSU and goalie Brooke Siler needed to make just one save to pick up the victory.
 
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Sunday in Tulsa, facing NCAA Division I foe Oral Roberts. It will be the first meeting in SWOSU Soccer history against a Division 1 opponent.
