WEATHERFORD, Okla. – An electric crowd was in attendance at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse to watch the SWOSU volleyball team earn an exciting three-set victory over Oklahoma City on Tuesday night. SWOSU won the match 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 30-28).
SWOSU hit well throughout the match, posting a season-high hitting percentage of .310 for the match. The Lady Bulldogs put down 43 kills against just 12 errors in the match in 100 total attempts.
After falling behind 19-18 late in the first set, SWOSU finished with seven of the final nine points in the set to win it 25-21. The second set was controlled by the Lady Dawgs who built a lead of 20-12 and took advantage of OCU errors and clutch kills by
Carly Zak and
Shayne Haley to put it away.
The third set was when the Rankin Rowdies really came alive in support of their team. The set was back-and-forth throughout, especially as the set neared its end. After SWOSU fell behind 24-23 and faced set point,
Alison Cole came through with two consecutive monster kills in the middle to give SWOSU the 25-24 advantage, but OCU would then fend off a match point.
Three critical serving errors by OCU in the final points allowed SWOSU to continue serving for the match, which they would do until
Saasha Jacobson served an ace at 29-28 to win the set and the match.
Zac continued the strong start to her freshman season and led SWOSU with 13 kills in the match, while committing just two hitting errors.
Joey Collins had several hard-hit kills as well for SWOSU, finishing with 11 for the match.
Shayne Haley had her best match of the young season, putting down nine kills on the right side and Cole was efficient as always, finishing with four kills and just one error.
Breann Whitaker recorded 40 assists for SWOSU and
Kaila Lancaster had a team-high 21 digs from the libero position. Cole had a match-high give blocks (one solo, four assist), giving SWOSU an advantage at the net.
SWOSU improves to 3-2 on the year with the win while OCU drops to 5-4. The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Colorado this weekend for the Thunderwolves Classic hosted by CSU-Pueblo.
