WEATHERFORD, Okla. – A nine-point lead early in the second half had the SWOSU men's basketball team in great position to pull off an upset over No. 13-ranked Midwestern State in head coach Bob Battisti's debut with the Bulldogs.

SWOSU took a 44-35 lead with 14:51 to play on a lay in from Gary Inglett, but the Bulldogs were then held scoreless for more than five minutes and Midwestern State countered with 11 unanswered points to regain control of the game.

MSU held SWOSU without a three-point basket for more than 35 minutes before Trent Washington connected with 4:31 to pull the Bulldogs within four at 57-53. SWOSU was unable to close the gap any further and they were sent to their first defeat of the young season.

Michael Bradley and Gary Inglett led the Bulldogs with 14 points apiece while Rod Camphor chipped in 10 points. Inglett also added 10 rebounds in his SWOSU debut for a double-double.

The Bulldogs drew 28 fouls against the Mustangs and got to the free throw line 40 times, but cashed in only half the time, keeping key points off the board. SWOSU also struggled with ball security, turning it over 15 times compared to six for MSU.

Midwestern State was led by 17 points from Monzaigo Williams and 16 from DeJuan Plummer as they improved to 1-0.

SWOSU will now turn around to face Angelo State on Saturday night at 7:30 pm. The Rams defeated East Central 72-62 on Friday at the Classic.
