Setting the Scene
A busy week for SWOSU volleyball opens on Tuesday night with a match for the cause against Cameron. The team will be holding their annual "Dig Pink" match against the Aggies, a former Lone Star Conference rival of the Bulldogs.
Then for the weekend, SWOSU will travel to Joplin, Mo., to face four regional foes from Kansas and Missouri. On Friday, the Bulldogs face off with Missouri Western and #4-ranked Central Missouri before wrapping up tourney play against Northwest Missouri State and Pittsburg State on Saturday.

Previous Meetings
The all-time meetings with the five non-conference foes for the week have resulted in just one combined win for SWOSU. Cameron holds a 9-0 advantage in the series against SWOSU with all of the meetings coming in Lone Star Conference play. The teams have not met since SWOSU left to join the Great American Conference.
Missouri Western holds a 2-0 all-time record while Central Missouri is 1-0 and Northwest Missouri State 3-0 against the Bulldogs. Pittsburg State is the one team that SWOSU has previous success against, a five-set victory in tournament play during the 2010 season.

The Coaches
Josh Collins is in his second season as the head volleyball coach at SWOSU after serving as an assistant the previous seven seasons. His first team finished 13-20 overall but rallied for a 10-4 conference record, finishing fourth in the Great American Conference. He is currently 19-30 as the Lady Bulldogs head man but 13-6 in GAC contests.
Doug Tabbert is in his third season as the head coach at Cameron after four seasons as the assistant head coach at Nebraska-Kearney. He has a career record of 30-47 at Cameron.
Former Missouri Western player Marian Carbin is in her her fifth season for the Griffons and her first as head coach. Carbin had previously been the assistant volleyball coach at Missouri Western since 2009.
Flip Piontek is in his fifth season as the Head Coach of Jennies Volleyball, and his 28th year with the program in 2013. Named head coach before the 2009 season, after 23 years as the Jennies assistant coach, Piontek has guided the program to two NCAA Regional championships and three straight MIAA titles from 2009-2011.
Amy Woerth is her second season at the helm of the Northwest Missouri State volleyball program after finishing sixth in the MIAA in 2012 posting a 15-17 record in her first season. Her career record at Northwest is currently 21-25.
Pitt State head coach Ibraheem Suberu is in his 14th season leading the Gorillas volleyball team. He has led the team six trips to the NCAA-II National Tournament.

Last Time Out
Momentum Friday night's triumph at Southern Arkansas appeared to carry over for the SWOSU volleyball team on Saturday morning as they picked up a 3-1 victory at Arkansas-Monticello by scores of 28-26, 25-18, 16-25, 28-26.
SWOSU hit over .200 in each of the first two sets and got out to an early 2-0 lead. After UAM took the third set 25-16 but the Bulldogs rebounded for another close win in the fourth set to put the match away.
Carly Zak led the Bulldogs with a season-high 17 kills and hit .231 for the match. Joey Collins continued her strong play of late, finishing with 15 kills against six errors. Kaila Lancaster and Kenya Williams anchored the defense with 23 and 11 digs, respectively, while four blocks from Kiley Brennfoerder and three from Alison Cole helped SWOSU hold an advantage at the net.
Brandy Mader had a team-high 22 assists and Breann Whitaker finished with 20 as the two players split time at the setter position.

Dig Pink
The Southwestern Oklahoma State University volleyball team will hold their annual 'Dig Pink' match on Tuesday night against Cameron.
The 'Dig Pink' initiative is promoted by the Side-Out Foundation, serving as a fundraiser for breast cancer research.
"Our team is very excited about the opportunity to raise awareness for breast cancer, a disease that affects so many people around us," SWOSU head coach Josh Collins said. "Our team is passionate about this cause and it is clear by the support given that the community of Weatherford feels the same way."
The Lady Bulldogs have sold t-shirts, printed by Sides Screenprinting & More, for fans to wear to the game and pink ribbons to hang up around Rankin Williams Fieldhouse for the night of the game. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game to show their support for the team and the cause.

Standings Check
Weekend wins at Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello were crucial for the Bulldogs to keep pace in the GAC. The wins improved SWOSU to 3-2 in conference play, tying them with Southern Arkansas and East Central for fourth place in the standings.
