WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Great American Conference co-leaders Ouachita Baptist and Southwestern Oklahoma State University hooked up for the first time since the GAC Tournament championship match on Sunday. Each team attempted 15 shots and score one goal and the match ended as a 1-1 tie.
OBU's Haley Hatcher scored late in the first half, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute on their lone shot attempt of the half. OBU was the aggressor for much of the second half, playing with the wind, but SWOSU's
Alexis Russell found the back of the net in the 76th minute to knot it up at 1-1.
SWOSU stayed aggressive and had chances late in regulation to score the go-ahead goal but were turned away, forcing overtime. In the overtime sessions, SWOSU attempted three shots against five from OBU, but neither team was able to put through a game-winning goal.
Natalie Crosslin and
Cori Kelly each had three shot attempts in the match while Russell,
Jessica Carbonara and
Samantha Nunez also had multiple shots.
Courtney Flores made six saves and moves to 4-1-2 on the year.
Next weekend, the Bulldogs head to Dallas to face Dallas Baptist in non-conference action on Friday afternoon before visiting Northwestern Oklahoma State on Sunday.
