MONTICELLO, Ark. – Momentum Friday night's triumph at Southern Arkansas appeared to carry over for the SWOSU volleyball team on Saturday morning as they picked up a 3-1 victory at Arkansas-Monticello by scores of 28-26, 25-18, 16-25, 28-26.
SWOSU hit over .200 in each of the first two sets and got out to an early 2-0 lead. After UAM took the third set 25-16 but the Bulldogs rebounded for another close win in the fourth set to put the match away.
Carly Zak led the Bulldogs with a season-high 17 kills and hit .231 for the match.
Joey Collins continued her strong play of late, finishing with 15 kills against six errors.
Kaila Lancaster and
Kenya Williams anchored the defense with 23 and 11 digs, respectively, while four blocks from
Kiley Brennfoerder and three from
Alison Cole helped SWOSU hold an advantage at the net.
Brandy Mader had a team-high 22 assists and
Breann Whitaker finished with 20 as the two players split time at the setter position.
Numbers from the match were very similar with each team finishing with 51 kills and SWOSU holding a slight advantage of .186 to .174 on hitting percentage.
The win improves SWOSU to 6-10 on the year and they move to 3-2 in Great American Conference play. The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday evening against Cameron in the annual "Dig Pink" match. Match time will be 7 pm at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.
