Fourth-Set Rally Not Enough for SWOSU to Overcome Bison

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Facing four match points, the SWOSU volleyball team rallied for six consecutive points and won the fourth set against Oklahoma Baptist, pushing the match to a deciding fifth set on Tuesday evening at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.
 
The Bulldogs eventually succumbed to the Bison – the No. 9-ranked team in NAIA – in the fifth set by a score of 15-11. Complete set scores were 14-25, 25-22, 21-25, 26-24, 11-15.
 
Carly Zak had a monster evening, putting down a career-high 25 kills in the match, equaling the second-best offensive output in SWOSU volleyball history. Joey Collins added 17 kills and hit .273 for the match while Alison Cole had 11 kills and a match-high seven blocks. As a team, SWOSU had their third-best offensive night of the year, scoring on 62 kills with 22 errors and a hitting percentage of .225.
 
The SWOSU defense recorded 70 digs in the match with a team-high 17 from Saasha Jacobson, 11 from Kaila Lancaster and 10 from Kenya Williams. Brandy Mader had 32 assists to lead the Bulldogs and added five kills and five digs.
 
Oklahoma Baptist was led by Kristin Pressley who finished with 26 kills and 24 digs. The Bison improve to 22-4 with the victory.
 
SWOSU falls to 7-15 on the year but at 3-2 in conference play they are sitting in fifth place of the Great American Conference standings. The Bulldogs return to conference action when they host Henderson State on Friday night and Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon.
