James Bagwell

James Bagwell enters his fourth season as an assistant coach with the SWOSU Women's Basketball program in 2026-27 after joining the Lady Bulldogs in the summer of 2023.

During his time with the women's program, Bagwell has helped SWOSU make two Great American Conference postseason appearances, including a run to the GAC Tournament championship game in 2024. He has also helped coach six All-GAC selections during his three seasons on staff.

Bagwell's tenure at SWOSU began with two seasons as an assistant coach for the Bulldog Men's Basketball program before he transitioned to the women's staff in 2023. He was part of the Bulldogs' 2022 GAC Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, just the second for the program in its NCAA Division II history.

Bagwell began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma Christian University following a four-year playing career with the Eagles. He has also accumulated extensive experience in AAU basketball as both a coach and club director and has trained youth, collegiate and professional players individually since 2017.

As a student-athlete at Oklahoma Christian, Bagwell earned Academic All-Conference honors in three consecutive seasons.

A native of Edmond, Oklahoma, Bagwell holds two degrees from Oklahoma Christian, earning his bachelor's degree in Sports Wellness & Recreational Management and master's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Leadership. He and his wife, Kait, a SWOSU Volleyball assistant coach and member of the SWOSU Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2026, reside in Weatherford.
