Justin Shults is in his second year on the Southwestern Oklahoma State softball coaching staff in 2014. He joined the Lady Bulldogs following two years of playing minor league baseball in the Houston Astros organization.

Shults was drafted in the 46th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros following a standout career at UC-Riverside. He was a two-time All-Big West selection, splitting time between first base and outfield, and he led the Highlanders in batting average, home runs, RBI, doubles, total bases and walks in 2010 as a junior. Following the 2010 season, he earned UC-Riverside’s Male Student-Athlete of the Year award and SAAC Sports Moment of the Year Award.

Shults earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UC-Riverside in 2011 and completed work on his master's degree in Sports Management from SWOSU in December 2013.
