Johnna Smith returns to the SWOSU softball program for her first season as an assistant coach in 2015. Smith previously played for the Bulldogs from 2011-13.
 
Smith was a three-year starter at shortstop for the Bulldogs, starting all 142 games of her SWOSU career. She still ranks sixth in all-time walks at SWOSU with 41 and eighth in career runs scored with 80. Her junior season was the best of her career as she earned Second Team All-Great American Conference honors after hitting .347 with nine doubles two home runs and 18 RBI. Smith started her career at Cisco Junior College, where she earned second team all-conference honors in 2009 while playing for former SWOSU player Jennifer Buccola.
 
A native of Blooming Grove, Texas, Smith was named to both the Dean’s List and President’s Honor Roll during her time at SWOSU and she was named to the GAC All-Academic Team. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from SWOSU in December 2013 and she is now pursuing a master’s degree in Sports Management from the school.
