Tyler Hennes enters his second season at SWOSU in 2019, serving as the Bulldogs Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach
In his first season at SWOSU, Hennes coached a group of wide receivers which helped the Bulldogs feature the fifth-best passing offense in the GAC with 236.1 yards per game through the air. Two of his wideouts – JR Omigie (Second Team) & Jared Rayburn (Honorable Mention – earned All-GAC distinction while senior Joel Blumenthal was invited to free agent minicamp with the Kansas City Chiefs following the season.
Hennes arrived in Weatherford after spending the 2017 season coaching wide receivers at Dodge City Community College in Kansas, guiding two of his wideouts to All-KJCCC honors.
Prior to his stop at Dodge City, Hennes was on staff at Southeastern Louisiana alongside current SWOSU Head Coach Chet Pobolish. He coached the Lions running backs in 2014 before moving to tight ends in 2015 while also serving as Southeastern’s pro liaison. He spent the spring of 2014 at his alma mater, Emporia State, where he was the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.
Hennes spent three seasons as the quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator at Southeast Missouri State, where he helped develop two All-Ohio Valley Conference quarterbacks, including on OVC Freshman of the Year. Before moving to SEMO, Hennes spent two seasons as a graduate assistant on the staff at Delta State, coaching alongside Pobolish and helping the Statesman to an NCAA Division II runner-up finish in 2010.
As a player, Hennes split time as a quarterback at Independence Community College and Emporia State, where he was coached by Pobolish. He got started in coaching as a football and basketball assistant at Northern Heights High School in Allen, Kansas, during the 2007 season before moving back to Independence Community College as the wide receivers coach in 2008.
A native of Mulvane, Kan., Hennes earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Emporia State in 2007 before completing work on a Master’s degree in Higher Education from Southeast Missouri State in 2013.
