Aaron Matthews joined the SWOSU staff in 2025 as an assistant coach working with the secondary. He arrives in Weatherford after coaching at both the high school and collegiate levels in Texas and Arkansas.
Matthews most recently served as Defensive Coordinator and Safeties Coach at Beaumont United High School (Texas) in 2025. Prior to that, he spent time at Del Valle High School in various roles, coaching cornerbacks in 2023, before shifting to inside linebackers and serving as special teams coordinator in 2024. He also gained collegiate experience as the cornerbacks coach at Southern Arkansas University from 2022–2023. His coaching career began at Travis High School (Texas) as a defensive backs coach in 2018–2019.
A native of Fresno, California, Matthews played collegiately at San Joaquin Delta College, where he was an all-conference defensive back and team captain from 2009–2011. He then transferred to Texas State University, lettering twice and serving as defensive team captain before graduating with his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice-Corrections in 2014. He later earned a master’s degree in Education with a focus in Sports Administration from Concordia University Austin in 2021.
