Toby Trotter enters his fifth season working with the SWOSU defensive backs in 2013. He was one of the first assistants hired by head coach Dan Cocannouer when he took over the program in 2009. Along with the secondary, Trotter has coordinated all the recruiting efforts for the Bulldogs since 2009.

In SWOSU’s Great American Conference tenure, Trotter has coached two players to all-conference honors as cornerback Marvin Tribble and safety Clarence Laster were both first team selections in 2011. Laster went on to earn several All-American honors for the Bulldogs after leading the GAC with eight interceptions and finishing with 97 tackles. His eight interceptions were the most by a SWOSU player since 1980 and ranked third in all of NCAA Division II.

Along with the GAC achievements Trotter coached two LSC North All-Conference players in 2010, 1st team All-Conference Safety Jonathan Darby and 2nd Team All-Conference Cornerback Marvin Tribble.

The Bulldog defense ranked #1 in pass defense in conference play in both 2010 and 2011, along with averaging 15 interceptions per year between the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Trotter coached previously at Southern Nazarene University and Louisiana College where he served as an assistant on both sides of the football. At SNU, he served as defensive secondary coach and recruiting coordinator from 2001 to 2003. During that time, SNU’s defenses annually finished among the NAIA ‘s top 15.

At Louisiana College, Trotter under head coach Marty Secord helped put together the Wildcats first intercollegiate football team in 2000, coordinating the passing game and coaching the receivers.

He also served as a player representative for Sosnick Cobbe Sports Agency where he handled more than two dozen professional baseball clients. He recruited and assisted players in the signing of contracts that resulted in negotiated bonuses well over $7 million. Among his clients were young stars Jay Bruce of the Cincinnati Reds, Cliff Pennington with the Oakland A’s, and Zach Britton and Tyler Henson of the Baltimore Orioles.

Trotter served as an area representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes while being stationed in the Ft. Worth  area and served as the team chaplain for TCU Football in 2007-2008.

Trotter, a graduate of Westmoore High School, obtained a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and a Masters Degree in Sports Management from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

He and his wife, Cari, have three young children, Cade, Ainsley, and Shelby.
