PITTSBURG, Kan. – SWOSU Volleyball won its final three matches of the Gorilla Classic, dropping just one set across the three-match stretch. The Bulldogs closed out the weekend with a dominant sweep of William Jewell.
The Bulldogs (5-3, 0-0 GAC) take their three-match winning streak to Southern Nazarene on Tuesday in Bethany to open GAC play. SWOSU will then head to the Ichabod Classic over the weekend for its final non-conference tournament of the season.
SWOSU never trailed on the scoreboard through the opening two sets and played just two points throughout the entire match without holding the lead.
The Dawgs came out quick in this early match, jumping out to a 16-4 lead in the first set in a blink to build an early one-set advantage. The second set brought more of the same, as the Bulldogs once again raced out to a 16-5 lead and closed out the set early. In the final frame, William Jewell showed some fight, taking a 6-5 lead before the Dawgs answered by scoring the next 11 points. SWOSU went up 16-6 from there and cruised to the victory.
The Dawgs combined for 18 more kills than the Cardinals while hitting .364, the highest mark for the Bulldogs this young season.
Mackenzie Sims notched another double-double with 31 assists and 10 digs, while Sydney Winfrey led the team with 11 kills.
Jada Permenter collected a team-high 17 digs.
