CHICKASHA, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball used an eight-run fifth inning to power past USAO 11-8 on Tuesday, avenging an earlier loss to the Drovers on March 24.
The Bulldogs have now won four of their last five games.
Trailing 2-1 entering the fifth, SWOSU erupted for eight runs to take control of the game. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with no outs and capitalized, collecting six hits in the inning while also benefiting from two walks and two USAO errors.
USAO had recently answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead, but SWOSU's fifth-inning outburst quickly flipped the momentum.
The Drovers made things interesting late, scoring six runs over the final three innings and bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth. However, a deep fly ball ended the threat and secured the win for SWOSU.
The Bulldogs finished with 11 hits compared to eight for USAO.
Keaton Fisher led the offense, going 3-for-4 with his second home run of the season and four RBI.
John Spoto and
Kotaro Wakui each added two hits.
Kaegan Baker started on the mound and worked into the fourth inning before giving way to
Conner Watson (W), who earned the win with 3.0 innings of relief.
Kael Shelite and
Jared Adams combined to close out the game, with Adams facing his former team.
With three weekends remaining in the regular season, SWOSU will look to build momentum in its push toward postseason qualification. The Bulldogs travel to face Ouachita Baptist this weekend in Arkansas.
