ALVA, Okla. – SWOSU Softball salvaged the series finale against Northwestern with a 7-5 win on Saturday.
The Bulldogs outhit the Rangers 11-7, led by four players with two hits apiece, including 2-for-4 performances from
Kennedi Caine and
Emily Wedel. Caine added a double, while Wedel's RBI triple in the fourth gave SWOSU a 3-2 lead at the time.
After Northwestern answered to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth, SWOSU responded with three runs in the fifth to take control for good. The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the sixth to extend the margin.
SWOSU capitalized on four Northwestern errors, scoring five unearned runs in the victory.
Lily Barfield started in the circle and worked the first three innings.
Jaycee McKee (W, 3-8) handled the fourth and fifth, while
Blaire Gentry recorded the final six outs to earn her fourth save of the season.
SWOSU will close the regular season next weekend at home, hosting Arkansas Tech for Senior Weekend on Friday and Saturday.
