DURANT, Okla. – SWOSU Softball dropped both games of Thursday's doubleheader to Southeastern Oklahoma State, falling 10-1 and 8-4.
The series concludes Friday at noon, with SWOSU looking to salvage the series and avoid the sweep.
Game One (6 inn.)
SE 10, SWOSU 1
SWOSU stayed within striking distance early before Southeastern broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning to end the opener.
The Bulldogs struck first when
Jaylynn Freer launched her first home run of the season in the second inning to give SWOSU a 1-0 lead. The advantage was short-lived, as the Savage Storm responded with a three-run homer in the bottom half of the inning.
Southeastern added a run in the fourth before erupting for six runs on six hits in the sixth to trigger the run rule.
The Storm totaled 15 hits, while SWOSU finished with seven.
Sierra Woods and
Skyla McPhillips each went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Jaycee McKee (L) pitched 3.2 innings in the start.
Lily Barfield and
Hannah Nieuwenhuis provided relief.
Game Two
SE 8, SWOSU 4
SWOSU briefly regained the lead in game two, but a four-run fifth inning from Southeastern proved to be the difference.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning behind an RBI bunt single from
Taylor McMahon and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.
Southeastern answered with three runs in the third on back-to-back doubles to take the lead, but SWOSU responded in the fourth.
Skyla McPhillips tied the game with an RBI, and
Taylor McKee followed with a pinch-hit RBI single to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 advantage.
The Storm answered again in the fifth, scoring four runs on six hits to take control. They added an insurance run in the sixth.
Southeastern finished with 16 hits, while SWOSU had nine.
Riley Lusk and
Emily Wedel each recorded two hits.
Blaire Gentry (L) pitched 4.2 innings before
Jaycee McKee entered in relief.
