WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Softball opened its series against East Central with a 6-1 win Friday, powered by a complete-game effort from
Blaire Gentry and steady offense in windy conditions.
The victory marks SWOSU's sixth in its last nine games.
Gentry tossed her first complete game of the season, striking out six while walking one and allowing seven hits. She worked efficiently in the circle and stranded six ECU baserunners.
At the plate, the Bulldogs produced 11 hits and scored in three different innings. SWOSU plated two runs in the second, added one in the fifth, and broke the game open with a three-run sixth.
Kennedi Caine doubled in the game's first run in the second inning, and a two-out error later in the frame brought home another. In the fifth, three consecutive singles — capped by an RBI knock from
Riley Lusk — extended the lead. SWOSU added three insurance runs in the sixth, stringing together four hits to create separation.
Lusk,
Maddie Rahon, and
Taylor McMahon each recorded two hits to lead the offense.
The Bulldogs will look to secure the series Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
