BETHANY, Okla. – Bulldog Baseball saw its bats explode for 28 runs in a dominant 28-14 midweek run-rule win over Southern Nazarene on Tuesday.
SWOSU broke the game open with 21 runs from the fourth through the sixth innings, putting up crooked numbers in six of the seven frames played. The Dawgs' 28 runs marked the second-most in a game since joining Division II.
A strong south wind in Bethany sent balls flying out of the park as SWOSU hit seven over the fence while collecting 13 extra-base hits to go along with 13 singles. The Dawgs trailed at the end of the second and third innings, but once the offense found its groove, the Bulldogs ran away with the non-conference win.
The Dawgs notched 26 hits on the afternoon, one shy of the program's Division II high. Nine Bulldogs recorded a hit, with eight posting multi-hit performances.
Landon Meyer,
Kotaro Wakui, and
Nolan McCrossin each had four hits.
John Spoto and Wakui both hit two home runs, while Meyer, McCrossin, and
Zach Makarewich added one apiece.
Five Bulldog arms got the nod, with Garett Coiner getting the start. He threw 2.0 innings, allowing four hits and three runs, all earned. Weatherford native
Jayden Minter collected his first win for the Dawgs, facing 12 batters and giving up three runs while striking out three.
SWOSU (10-7, 2-4 GAC) now shifts back to conference play as it heads to Shawnee to face Oklahoma Baptist in a weekend series beginning Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
