TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – SWOSU Softball went winless in two tries against ranked opponents on Friday, falling 4-0 to No. 12 Rogers State before dropping a 10-3 decision to No. 17 Missouri Southern.
With rain anticipated on Saturday, game times have been adjusted. SWOSU will face Fort Hays State at 1:00 p.m. before closing out the tournament against Washburn at 5:30 p.m.
Game One
RSU 4, SWOSU 0
Alexis Taylor and Blaire Gentry kept SWOSU within striking distance in the circle, allowing just four runs — two earned — against the Hillcats. The Bulldog offense struggled to generate momentum, managing just four singles in the contest.
Rogers State broke through in the fourth inning after an error helped spark the frame, then added two insurance runs in the seventh to seal the win.
Josie Oakley accounted for half of SWOSU's hits, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate.
Game Two
MSSU 10, SWOSU 3
SWOSU struck first in the nightcap when Landry Bayless launched her third home run of the season in the opening inning.
After the Lions plated three runs in the top of the second, the Bulldogs responded to tie the game at 3-3. Jaylynn Freer tripled to start the rally, followed by a Kennedi Caine RBI double. Sierra Woods later drove in the tying run on a fielder's choice.
Missouri Southern made a pitching change in the third inning, and the new arm limited SWOSU to just two hits the rest of the way while striking out 12.
With the score tied 3-3, the Lions scored in every inning thereafter except the sixth to pull away. SWOSU was outhit 12-5 in the contest.
