WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Baseball run-ruled Randall University 24-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the Athletic Complex in its final tune-up before the start of Great American Conference play this weekend.
The Bulldog bats stayed hot, piling up 20 hits on the day and breaking the game open with a 13-run fifth inning. SWOSU collected nine hits in the decisive frame alone, turning a 5-2 lead into a runaway victory.
With a strong north wind blowing in from the outfield, the Bulldogs did most of their damage with base hits, finishing with just four extra-base hits on the afternoon. SWOSU scored twice in the first inning, added two more in the third, tacked on a run in the fourth, and then blew the game open in the fifth.
Ten different Bulldogs recorded at least one hit, led by
John Spoto and
Zach Makarewich, who each finished with three.
Six SWOSU pitchers saw action.
Garrett Folmar got the start and worked three innings, striking out three of the first four batters he faced to open the game.
Ryan Dugas and
Garrett Coiner threw scoreless innings of relief out of the bullpen.
SWOSU (7-2) now turns its attention to conference play. The Bulldogs' Great American Conference opening series against Arkansas Tech has been moved to Sunday and Monday due to forecasted rain.
