SWOSU Women's Basketball is set to travel to Arkansas for the first time in the new year to take on Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello.
The Lady Bulldogs went 0-2 last week after falling to a hot-shooting Henderson State team that was receiving votes in the WBCA Coaches Poll at the time of the meeting. Ouachita Baptist then got the upper hand on Saturday after a cold start from the Lady Bulldogs for the second straight game. It marked Ouachita's first win in Weatherford since 2012.
Southern Arkansas enters the game at 8-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play but has dropped its last three games. At home, the Muleriders are 4-1 on the season. SAU owns the eighth-ranked offense in the league, scoring 66.3 points per game while shooting 40.3 percent from the field. Defensively, the Muleriders allow just 60.7 points per game, the third-best mark in the conference. Opposing teams are shooting only 25.8 percent from beyond the three-point line, the lowest mark in the league outside of Ouachita Baptist.
Blyth Crawley leads the SAU offense at 13.6 points per game, while Hope Bump adds 10.0 points per contest. Elena Lijo-Rodriguez averages 1.6 blocks per game, the third-best mark in the GAC.
SWOSU defeated the Muleriders both times the two played a year ago and the Lady Bulldogs are 9-4 against them in Magnolia while competing in the GAC. Â
Arkansas-Monticello has struggled to find its footing in GAC play. The Blossoms are 5-9 overall and 0-8 in conference action, losing by an average of 19.1 points per game. Offensively, UAM scores just 57.8 points per game, the lowest mark in the conference, while allowing 62.3 points per game on defense. In GAC games only, that scoring average drops to 54.1 points per game, while opponents score 73.3 points per contest.
Alindsey Long leads the team with 13.5 points per game and scored a career-high 30 points against ECU last week. Alyssa Batton adds 12.3 points per game and has scored in double figures in nine games this season.
The Lady Dawgs swept UAM last season and are 10-3 against the Blossoms when the game is played in Monticello.Â
SWOSU enters the matchup at 5-8 overall and 3-5 in conference play after dropping its last two games, sitting 10th in the conference standings. The Lady Bulldogs rank ninth in the GAC in scoring at 62.4 points per game, while allowing 64.5 points per contest on the defensive end, the seventh-most in the league. At the free-throw line, SWOSU shoots 65.3 percent, the lowest mark in the GAC.
Landry Allen missed last week's games but could return to the lineup this week to continue her strong season. She is averaging 13.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game, while protecting the rim with 4.1 blocks per contest, the fourth-best mark in Division II. Allen has earned GAC Defensive Player of the Week honors four times and has recorded five blocks in three straight games.
Sincere Jackson is coming off a strong week, posting her second 20-point performance of the season against Henderson State. She added nine rebounds and dished out a season-high four assists against Ouachita Baptist. Jackson is averaging a team-high 13.9 points per game while pulling down 6.7 rebounds per contest.
