Dawgs Fall Twice in Illinois by Identical 3-1 Scores

LEBANON, Ill. - SWOSU dropped both outings on the Friday slate, falling first in the morning session against Minnesota-Duluth and later to Michigan Tech to close out the day.

The Dawgs will wrap up their time in Illinois at McKendree's Fall Tournament tomorrow with a 9:00 a.m. matchup against Missouri-St. Louis.

SWOSU vs Minnesota-Duluth
L, 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 14-25, 16-25)

SWOSU took the opening set 25-22 but couldn't keep momentum, dropping the next three to Minnesota-Duluth. The Bulldogs from UMD held SWOSU under 20 points in each of the final three frames.

The second set was knotted at 20 before UMD strung together five straight points to steal it away and set the tone for the rest of the match. SWOSU hit just .067 and .121 in the final two sets.

Paris Patterson led the attack with 13 kills. Kaylyn Christy and Sydnee Winfrey each added nine, with Winfrey hitting a team-high .571 and recording a team-best seven blocks.

Cameron Turner handed out 32 assists while Jada Permenter anchored the back row with 20 digs.
SWOSU vs Michigan Tech
L, 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 20-25, 16-25)

The second match of the day followed a familiar script. SWOSU took the first set but failed to score more than 20 points in the last three.

Hailey Smith paced the offense with 10 kills and three blocks. Winfrey added eight kills and led the team again with six blocks, while freshman Katja Blanchat chipped in eight kills on an impressive .500-plus hitting percentage.

Statistically, SWOSU trailed Michigan Tech 36-60 in total kills and .176 to .248 in hitting percentage. The Dawgs did, however, hold advantages in other areas, committing fewer service errors (5-7) and dominating net play with 22 blocks compared to just 10 for MTU.
