WEATHERFORD - SWOSU Soccer enters Great American Conference play with momentum after a 4-2 non-conference start. The Bulldogs opened the season with four straight wins before dropping their last two on the road.
The Dawgs' attack has been a revelation, averaging 2.33 goals per game—second in the GAC and a jump from last year's 0.83 average. They've already scored 14 goals on 88 shots, just one shy of their total from the entire 2024 season.
Defensively, freshman goalkeeper
Emma Young anchored back-to-back shutouts to start the year. She has faced 95 shots, allowing 10 goals while collecting 32 saves—the second-highest total in the conference. Young and senior defender
Julie Andersen have each earned GAC Player of the Week honors, with Young recognized as Goalkeeper of the Week and Andersen as Defensive Player of the Week.
Freshman
Saoirse Hourigan has ignited the offense, scoring five goals—tied for the GAC lead—and adding an assist. Two of her goals have come from the penalty spot, making SWOSU the only team in the league to score on a PK this season, she also has collected an Offensive Player of the Week award.
Braelee Epp and
Ruth Vasquez have chipped in two goals apiece, while Epp and
Philippine de Sancy share the conference lead with two assists each.
The Bulldogs' remaining 12 games are all against conference opponents. They open league play Wednesday at home against Southern Nazarene at 5 p.m. for "Pack the Park," before traveling to Oklahoma Baptist to close out the week.
